- MTA Subway Map for iPhone
Since I bought my iPhone on June 30, I've been looking for an easy, high-quality method for viewing the MTA Subway map. The phone's built-in Photo application “optimizes” all photos and images down to a dimension and resolution that doesn't work well for images with lots of small text and details. What I wanted, was the ability to view a PDF, or large PNG of the system map – and to be able to zoom in and drag it around easily. Bill at iSubwayMaps.com outlined one such solution, which involved setting up a Yahoo! mail account, since IMAP mail accounts... - SXSW: Day 1
4 restless hours of sleep, and 1 Jetblue direct flight from BOS to AUS, and I found myself in Austin. Checked into the hotel and met up with the EchoDitto folks, and other friends. There are like 4 Jasons, 2 Justins, a John (me) — so it gets confusing. 70 degrees here, 55 or so at night. This festival totally takes over the city. Met some cool people last night, and the first panel this morning was cool — i started in “why XSLT is sexy”, but bailed for “emerging social and technology trends”. Next up, “How to Bluff Your... - SXSW '07
Things have been so hectic with work lately, there’s been no time to update. I’ll be attending the SXSW Interactive Festival this year in Austin, TX. I just couldn’t let another year go by. I’m crashing with Jason and the EchoDitto crew at the Hyatt — can’t wait to meet everybody.... - Pitchfork Music Festival
We didn't make it down to SXSW, but we are heading to Chicago for Pitchfork's festival. 96 degrees and humid... see you in hell, Chicago!... - Rhode Island of Misfit Toys Rally
This past weekend was the Rhode Island camping rally… we rented a truck to transport the bikes, drank sangria made from 4.5 bottles of wine & 1 bottle of brandy, and had a good time scooting around, (before the drinking began). I even got to DJ saturday night, with an improvised iPod/radio setup. Even the 90+ degree heat couldn’t keep us down - but I totally understand now the importance of shade, when you’re trying to snooze inside a tent. Rhode Island of Misfit Toys photoset. Presley’s photoset Video of Angie’s gymkhana crash on YouTube... - California
Things have been busy lately, so I’m still playing catch-up with Flickr and this weblog… but, I wanted to write up a short post on our trip to Southern California last month. Presley & I haven’t been to the west coast before, so we were really looking forward to spending a week in the sun. Here are some photos that we took: From the San Diego: Zoo set: tear, polar bear chewy, panda bear From the San Diego: City set: trolley, downtown San Diego From the Los Angeles set: pose, Presley & Milch in Jet Rag WeHo, Jeff & Jared’s... - Yea, New York
We had a nice weekend in NYC… thanks Jenna, Becca, Jason, Matt, & Sharon. Some observations: Saw Mill Parkway is still the best path into the City. I love driving by Readers Digest HQ. Bloody Marys are better when hand-made. I can’t recommend the food at 7A. Or the service. Don’t let your high school friends tackle you in the middle of Tompkins Square Park… your clothes will end up dirty. I could spend every day in the Lotus Lounge on Clinton St… Coffee, Beer, wi-fi. Starfoods has no other customers at 7:30pm on a saturday night… creepy. Jason... - Snow Infographics
Aw crap… there goes our weekend in NYC.... - Jet Blue shuttle
Oh, how I heart JetBlue… finally, a low-cost Boston-New York shuttle flight. And the best part is, they’re running an introductory fare sale: JetBlue will offer introductory fares of $25 each way on what will be up to 10 flights between the cities, with fares later settling at between $40 and $120 each way, undercutting the established shuttle. It’s about time.... - La Laque & Pas/Cal
When I was in New York, Jenna and I checked out the La Laque & Pas/Cal show at Tonic, in the Lower East Side. They were celebrating the joint release of a 12?single. The real suprise for me was how much I liked the Brooklyn-based La Laque. They’re three girls & three boys, playing French New Wave / Surf rock. Listening to the few MP3s out there won’t quite convey the energy and feeling they exert on stage. I may never listen to another Stereolab album again [sic]. And it was nice to see Yuki & James again… they’re coming... - Weekend
After 5 days off from the nine-to-five last week, I drove down to nyc to hang out with Jenna again. Photos will come soon, because they need to be developed… (Presley had my trusty Elph with her in Vegas for MacyMe’s Bachelorette weekend). Speaking of which, here’s Macyme: Sexpot, by presley.... - 24 hours in nyc
"garden", posted by nedward I plunked down the $15 and rode the "Fung Wah":http://fungwahbus.com to nyc to visit the new "MoMA":http://moma.org, and visit some friends. It was nice to finally get inside the museum, having been thwarted by long lines on my past two visits. I enjoyed meandering around by myself, though the guided audio tour is pretty worthless. Saturday night, "Jenna":http://www.jennarator.com/ took me out with "Jin":http://www.jinners.com/, Anna, and my friend Stef from Boston, to see "mazing vids":http://www.superassembly.com/mazingvids.html at the "Cake Shop":http://www.cake-shop.com/ in the Lower East Side. We ate "s'mores":http://www.answers.com/smores from a streetcart, which made me want to go... - K
Perhaps my favorite night of our time in Vegas was Monday, when we escaped to the Strip for a bit of culture… earlier this month, Cirque de Soleil opened K at the MGM Grand, so we figured, why not check it out? We “splurged” for the cheap seats at $100 a pop. Steep, to be sure, but that still got us a decent view, cup-holders and speakers that were integrated into the headrests. Pretty cool… This show was unlike any theatrical experience I’ve ever had — to start, there is no stage… or rather, the stage rises vertically, spins, floats... - Let the Sin begin
"Let the Sin begin", posted by nedward Got back from Nevada on Wednesday morning, having fled the pouring rain, bright neon, and the sound of slot machines. We spent about a week in Nevada, which is far too long, considering we didn't "get married":http://flickr.com/photos/nedward/5339593/ or lose our life's savings... No, instead we made due with "$2 forty-ounce lagers":http://flickr.com/photos/nedward/5324660/in/set-134364/ and the right to smoke anywhere we please. "Lammy", posted by nedward It was good to be amongst scooterists again, though the rain kept us from riding except on Sunday... Presley and I are off to Vegas for nearly a week, to go to the High Rollers Weekend, AKA, the Las Vegas Scooter Rally. Morgan is the man, as he’s going to let us ride his gorgeous vintage Vespa GT while we’re there. I’ve never actually been west of Chicago, so I’m excited. The weather, however might not cooperate. A quick glance at the 10-day forecast doesn’t make me hopeful. Anyway, I’ll have photos and all the details when we get back. The funny thing is, my parents called to say that they would be there at the same time…... - Yea New York
After a fun New Year's Eve time down in the Lower East Side, I of course decided to leave my beloved "digital camera":http://ned.suckahs.org/archives/001870.php behind in the cab. Brilliant. I called the Limo & Taxi Commission, and put a notice on "Craigslist":http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/laf/54055391.html... no chance. We walked over the Brooklyn Bridge today, and I had to be contented with a Kodak disposable... and tomorrow morning, we're going to check out the new "MoMA":http://moma.org/about_moma/newmoma.html. I'm tempted to go down to E 86th street in the morning and buy a new one. this sucks...... - Gotham '04
Well, we survived the "Gotham rally":http://gothamrally.org/ this past weekend. We met a lot of cool scooterists, and enjoyed riding around Manhattan and Brooklyn. I think we put brought joy and curiosity (and maybe envy?) to the people of New York -- seeing a hundred scooters coming through your neighborhood in a giant pack is not something people see every day. Those "kids":http://iscootny.com/ down in NYC know how to throw a good time. Too bad I didn't "win":http://gothamrally.org/index.php?name=pagetool_news&news_id=6 the "bike raffle":http://scoot.net/gallery/2004/04/gotham/Raffle_Prize/. I posted "my pics":http://scoot.net/gallery/2004/04/gotham/Nedward/ at "Scoot.net":http://scoot.net/ -- check out "Jason":http://bloodymortyvane.typepad.com/ above. Tonight, I buy my first scooter: a "Vespa P-200":http://www.vespafascination.com/70/scooters/htm/f_78_P200E.htm.... - Pre Gotham Rally
Tomorrow, we get out of work a little early, and load into the Saab for a trip down to NYC for the "Gotham Scooter Rally":http://gothamrally.org. From everything we've heard, Brooklyn will be burning by sunday night. "Presley":http://presley.suckahs.org and I are relatively new scooterists, and this is our first rally. "Jason":http://bloodymortyvane.typepad.com/ and "Kim":http://starstreamgirl.textamerica.com/ of course are responsible for this... so a special thanks to them for all their help getting Lisa's '63 Lambretta Li125 on the road. If all goes well, next week I'll be riding a 25-year old Vespa p200... sadly I won't have it for Gotham, but I'm psyched,... - Back to Detroit
I'm off to "Detroit":http://ned.suckahs.org/archives/000791.php for one day, to attend my cousin's funeral. It's such a sad thing, even though we weren't close in age. Bob was a great guy, who was full of all kinds of odd and interesting knowledge. And he was always willing to listen or offer up honest advice... even when I was an obnoxious teenager who thought he knew everything. I love ya, man.... - Where I've Been...
This is a "map(World66.com)":http://www.world66.com/ of where I've visited or lived in the United States... This is really jarring, because I haven't crossed the _Mississippi_, and I haven't ventured into the heart of _Dixie_. I think that says something about me, but I'm not sure what. *Resolution*: before I turn 28, (which gives me 2 years), I want to add at least 3 states. One of them must be California... that's the easy one.... - Florida Keys and Miami

There is something to be said about all-inclusive vacations! Even with a great airfare deal, my credit card is at... $1,451.71 It was worth every penny, however.... - Day 5: Back to Miami
Last night was cold! I know it's much colder home in Boston, but Key West shouldn't be 50 and windy as hell! We spent our second night heading down to Mallory Square for "Sunset (We saw clouds)":http://www.sunsetcelebration.org/. I was wearing a wool turtleneck sweater, and was chilly. Sadly, we walked around the "Hilton":http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?moreDesc=true&ctyhocn=EYWKWHF (which basically took over the waterfront a few years ago), but couldn't find the "Cat Man (must be the best street performer I didn't see)":http://www.catmankeywest.com/. We did catch "Jeep and Mo":http://www.sunsetcelebration.org/performers/jeep.htm and some tumbling/acrobatic group. Not bad, I suppose, but nothing you couldn't get at "Fanueil Hall... - Day 4: Key West
Scooters! What else to do in Key West? We headed to "Moped Hospital (Good people, good time)":http://www.mopedhospital.com/ down the street from our Inn, and each rented a scooter for the day. For $40 each, you get to wheel around town helmet-less at 30 mph... quite a lot of fun, even with our little Korean models. Every once in a while, a real motorbike will zoom past us and put us in our place, but it feels liberating to be able to zip around without wearing your feet out. 30-mph feels like pretty fast when you're flying by bicyclists. We first... - Day 1, Part II: Arriving in Key Largo
We passed through Miami Beach -- stopping briefly to eat lunch and wander into the shops as it rained. People are very friendly here -- even in "Benetton (I didn't buy anything, though...)":http://www.benetton.com/! I made Presley take off her shoes and pop into the surf... rain or no rain. One odd thing we noticed about South Beach was the copious numbers of scooters motoring around. Very odd indeed, but it makes perfect sense to own one here, in the sun, where the streets are relatively small and slow. No helmets! We then headed down towards the Keys, down that crowded... - Off to the Keys
"Presley":http://presley.suckahs.org and I are off this morning to Miami and the "Florida Keys":http://www.fla-keys.com/ for 6 days. We're going to visit "Sara":http://suckahs.org/crew/sara.php, and meander around in the Keys in search of "sun (go ahead, hate me...)":http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/pastweather/USFL0244?when=010604, "fun (me, the outdoorsman...)":http://www.fla-keys.com/diving/index.htm and the perfect "Key Lime Pie (Sara says these are good -- we'll see!)":http://www.blondgiraffe.com/. I'm packing up the powerbook and the "digital camera":http://ned.suckahs.org/archives/001870.php, so a travelog might spurt up. Our "hotel (Looks gorgeous...)":http://www.keylargoresort.com/ in Key Largo has wi-fi, and I've already looked up hotspots in "Key West (I won't relax one bit)":http://www.jiwire.com/search-wifi-hotspots.htm?command=&ssid=&hotspot_name=&location_type_id=0&technology_id=0&provider_id=0&pay_free=both&address=&city=key+west&country_id=1&state_id=10&zip=&radius=20.0&x=41&y=10...... - If You're Going to San Francisco...
Presley and I are trying to plan a little 5-day trip to San Francisco this month-- mostly because I'm being forced to take some time off, and I have a free ticket on United for anywhere in the lower-48. We need to do this on the cheap, but neither of us have ever been west of Chicago. I've heard that there are deals to be had on B&Bs, though I don't even know what neighborhood in which to look-- Soma? Union Square? Fisherman's Wharf? And where to eat? Where to go see a good Rock show? What museums to go... - Planning
Planning for an event like Field Day is pretty daunting for someone who has camped less than 5 times in his entire life. A co-worker of mine suggests buying tents and equipment from Building 19, where you can basically find anything you never wanted, so long as it fell off the back of a truck. But that seems a bit stupid. Then there is REI... which has things to make even me drool. Presley is all into borrowing from friends, which is fine, except it might be nice to own some camping stuff... weekends on Cape Cod anyone? So maybe... - Shoot the Weather-people
OK, so I spent the weekend in Albany, at an interstate Courtyard by Marriott, because I met my parents there (half-way between Boston & Buffalo). I went swimming, shopped at the monstrous Crossgates Mall, and saw The Recruit. This was all fine. Until I had to decide what to do about the coming storm... Albany Dan was coming back from New York, and I wanted to go out and have some drinks... so we checked with the Weather Channel, and they seemed to think that the storm wouldn't start pounding New England until the afternoon, monday. LIARS! I left Albany... - God was Drunk When he Created the I-84
We had a horrible return trip to cambridge tonight from brooklyn, as the rains were plentiful, and the subaru inadequate to combat them. I seriously can't drive as fast as the SUV crowd, because of visibility and the hydroplaning. happy new years.... - hi! Detroit Sucks. Big Suprise.
hi! Detroit sucks. big suprise. my aunt has one of those black Dells that that dumb blonde kid on TV is always telling people they're going to get "it"... and she has a cable modem. so hot. The cigarrette smoke here can be cut with a wedding cake knife. In fact, i'm doing that now... waving, and waving a knife around so as to breathe. UPDATE: I don't appreciate the rascist comments, so I am filtering them now. I will allow negative or disrespective comments, but certain kinds of language are out-of-bounds. Play nice & thanks, Ned... - That Detroit de Stijl
Tomorrow is very busy... I have to prepare and give a presentation to the M.I.S. department at the City of Niagara Falls in the morning... via confrence call. Always fun. We will be discussing the Web site that I want to build for them. It will be MySQL driven with Content Management and everything. The goal is to allow their secretary (or intern?) to be able to update the site, if need be. I have to build the tools to get it done. Second, I'm flying to Detroit in the afternoon. Wednesday is my Cousin's wedding (!!!). I don't know... - Buttalo
i'm in buttalo. i need to leave now. it's getting late.... - Mem Day Weekend
We're off to Buffalo for the long weekend, and I haven't written in a while. The sox beat up on the yankees last night, and I hope they do it the rest of the weekend. Everyone in this town, (by that I mean the media), is talking about how much Roger Clemens sucks, but he's pitching tonight. I wish I could watch the fans ride him... but alas, i'm off to the land of AAA-ball. 666 visited this week, and it was good fun. We even played tennis, and I'm absolutely convinced that she will become an up-and-coming star. No... - Rhode Island
I was back in Providence this weekend. Walked through the RISD museum again, but i didn't have much time because I had to meet my parents for lunch at a restaurant at the giant mall downtown. It was good to see moms & dad though. Vote on my new poll now.... - Home Part 2
hi again, amigos. We're back in Boston, and happy for it! EvilMonkey, Glenndo, Presley & Megger tried hardily to put together a Harry Potter puzzle on our coffee table. bon amusant! thanks to Liz, Ashley & Emilie (i do NOT run a small man mill in Boston, I SWEAR) for links... I read you guys regularly, so thanks for sharing your talents... AND, besides EvilMonkey passing out on the couch tonight, it's SNOWING. When Presley & I (i AM name dropping tonight, aren't i?) were in Buffalo, there was 82", so this little Boston slush is NOTHING. (excuse the caps... - Home
we've made it the 450 miles downwind from boston to buffalo. The 2 'B's. I'm now sitting at a blueberry imac, trying like fuck to get the hocky-puck mouse to do what i need it to. i'm thrilled to see that suckahs tests well on Mac IE 5.0... i was totally wierded out when we went to visit 666 last weekend-- the site worked ok on her imac (ie 4.5), but i made some minor changes to fix little bugs. i totally need an imac in my non-existent design stoodio. i love the macintosh OS interface-- so lovely. But what... - Albany Part 2
i'm back from albany danno's... it was a good weekend -- full of machismo. here are some highlites, in a bery particular order... - the albany river rats minor-league hockey game... - the sausage-only bar... where the guy-to-girl ratio was somewhat disappointing... and danno managed to blow a done game of checkers. - the trip to saratoga springs... (not much to report) - the David Sederis reading... (how to spell his name, kate?) at the Egg. AND THEN? No AND THEN. Also, Danno got me hooked on NHL 2002-- which i managed to cd-burn, and track down a crack. LET'S... - Albany
well, i'm trying to get on my way to albany, but it took like 2 hours to print mapquest.com directions on Melanie's computer. Ug. So, soon i'll be off. We're going to a AAA hockey game tonight, and david saderis tomorrow.... fun stuff. Also, hope i don't miss the Head of the Charles....
